What is often forgotten about the 60's is that "Swingin' London" totally dominated the scene (certainly after the initial first wave of Merseymania died down)either leaving bands stranded in the sticks or fighting for a crumb of attention alongside lots of rivals in London. Some fantastic bands such as Timebox, the Action, Cliff Bennett, Birds got very little attention in terms of chart success as radio was dominated after 1967 by the national station Radio 1 once the pirate radio stations began to lose their impact. So, for a bunch of Scottish lads to have any kind of chance they either needed loads of talent along with some luck (Marmalade / Gerry Rafferty); a gimmick (tartan everything - Bay City Rollers); or critical acclaim (Stone the Crows) which might even get the public's attention and support (Alex Harvey)....and yes, I am Scottish!Greenockiannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1874687919193635.post-19253084987568644592010-06-29T12:25:24.899-07:002010-06-29T12:25:24.899-07:00Great song.
