Very cool to hear that Linda was part of that scene as well. Can't wait to see the documentary.Derek Seehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16243707785298348196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1874687919193635.post-71236118167671506582009-06-27T23:57:05.333-07:002009-06-27T23:57:05.333-07:00Thanks, Derek. "Linda Lyndell" is Linda...Thanks, Derek. "Linda Lyndell" is Linda Rowland, who grew up around Gainesville, Florida. Her producer was the only white musician ever in Ike and Tina's horn section, my best friend of 40 years, Charles Steadham.

She is Anglo, as is Charles, whose stage name was Charlie Blade. They both became fascinated and obsessed with R&B, and made significant personal sacrifices to make it a career for a good many years in the 60's / 70's. They both performed exclusively in otherwise all-black bands.

She is still alive, and is aware of the subsequent versions and samples from her work, including one by Salt n Pepa.

Charles and I are working on a documentary about the north Florida R&B scene in those days. Check davidandhijin.com, go to "Sarah's Place." We filmed a reunion concert with players and audience members from "back in the day."Geronimohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08326817421115356129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1874687919193635.post-43979325319307409162009-06-19T12:46:50.395-07:002009-06-19T12:46:50.395-07:00pure funk!pure funk!little billy sunshinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03417358131324900099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1874687919193635.post-88376713753565930652009-06-18T15:08:00.865-07:002009-06-18T15:08:00.865-07:00Derek, you hit the nail on the head when describin...Derek, you hit the nail on the head when describing the EnVogue version of this song - overblown, overproduced & completely soulless as I recall.Stewart Reynoldsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1874687919193635.post-16281516711904023792009-06-17T16:19:19.618-07:002009-06-17T16:19:19.618-07:00I think I read somewhere that Lynda is an American...I think I read somewhere that Lynda is an American Indian.
