THE MILLIONAIRES - A RATHER HIP SHING

This group seems to have released a few records, but I can't find much in the way of biographical info on them (although I was happy to see that two members are performing in a vocal group together currently). This track appears to be the b-side; the other side is good and I almost featured it as well (it's a mid-tempo sweet soul track) but in the interest of conserving my precious bandwidth had to keep it off. BUT, this swingin' little number is somethin' else!

THE MILLIONAIRES - A RATHER HIP SHING

  1. Great choice Derek, and once again a new one on me! Although one couldn't guess from listening, label evidence suggests this is a New Orleans recording, as the producers are renowned N.O. musicians cornettist Melvin Lastie and pianist James Booker. They were obviously aiming at an uptown dance-soul sound with the Capitols' "Cool Jerk" as inspiration, which dates the single squarely from 1966. Happy to be contradicted if anybody knows different!
