Hugh Whalum is a jazz artist which probably explains the big band sound on the disc. The B side, "I've got to stop" can be heard at http://bradhales.podomatic.com/entry/2007-03-22T09_03_19-07_00 but it's not that good to be honest.
I know there's a danger of being a bit of a "sad act" as my kids would say but I think Spyder Turner covers the same song here: http://video.filestube.com/video,a534650e28a6c7c403e9.html
The address and Hugh Whalum's involvement link the River City label to the better-known Lanie label, with some incredible Northern Soul gems by the Caesars such as "Girl, I Miss You" All very hard to find and quite expensive of course. I believe even the Kingshighway address on the label is the same.

ReplyDeleteI like the other side, but not quite enough for a 2 sided post. I'm always having to think of bandwidth...
ReplyDeleteHugh Whalum is the uncle of jazzman Kirk Whalum who I have now discovered thanks to this disc!
