TAURUS AND LEO - I AIN'T PLAYING BABY

A mystery record! The only info I was able to find out about these guys was that this is a Detroit record (no surprise!).

An incredible, gritty record with excellent duo vocals. I'm taking a guess at the year.

As always, if you know anything about it, PLEASE write me!

from 1968...

  1. Based on the Columbia pressing number, it was pressed in 1966

  2. looking closely at the label, i have one thought..

i'm not sure it's the same guy, but Johnny Terry was an original member of the Flames, better known as the Famous Flames.....he also co-wrote, Please Please Please with James Brown

perhaps it's the same person as the producer of this record?

  3. duh...it occurs to me to mention something else, mainly because the singers themselves are unknown on this record...[aren't they?]

the Johnny Terry i mentioned in my previous post was a vocalist with the Famous Flames...you can hear him for sure on both Please Please Please, and Try Me....

  5. i had the same thought Derek...and am poking around to see if i can find a birth date.....

i realize this is likely just a goose chase, but i figure if nothing else i'll learn more about the Flames..

oh, and more about about the Drifters as well....Johnny Terry also sang with them for a time..i haven't been able to find out exactly when, but from the look of a pic i found, i'd guess 1960?

  6. I think it's Winifred "Johnny" Terry who was from Detroit and was in The Drifters. He had a production company called Empire. The song may be by Ronnie Savoy, AKA Eugene Ronald Hamilton, also from Detroit. Hope that helps!

  9. very nice, Small Town Girl.....in case you check back, i'm curious, is the Johnny Terry who was in the Flames the same person as Winifred "Johnny" Terry who was in the Drifters?

all i've found are a couple of bad quality photo's, so it's hard to tell if it's the same person in both groups....but, i wouldn't say it's an obvious no...

  10. I love how many comments this one sparked. I was almost unsure of whether to post it. I mean, I love it but I was unsure if many others would like it. Guess I was wrong!

  11. Hey ana-b,

I think they are two different Johnny Terrys. Flames Terry is from Georgia and seems to have been in juvenile detention with Brown. Drifters Terry was from Detroit. (He seems to have been the brother-in-law of the Hollands of Holland-Dozier-Holland. Royalty!)

Still can't figure who was Taurus & Leo though.
