HOMER BANKS - A LOT OF LOVE

Born and raised in Memphis, this track finds Homer Banks bursting into the stratosphere with a very Stax-like sound (although he was denied the opportunity to record for Stax records proper which to me is mind-boggling; he certainly deserved to be there).

The riff of this song was copped shortly afterwords by the Spencer Davis Group for their hit "Gimme Some Lovin".

from 1966...

  1. Homer Banks is an unsung star. What little credit he gets is from his songwriting for Stax, but why the label never gave him a recording contract, I don't know. The CD of his (I think) complete works, Hooked By Love is well worth purchasing. W.

  2. NICE. I know this one from Taj Mahal's version in the Stones R&R Circus, but i didn't know it was a cover.... You learn something new every day.

  3. at first I was like, oh, that's nice. But at 30 secs to the end, he totally kicks it up a notch and turns the song from good to great.

    Thanks!

  5. Homer Banks is my uncle, and I miss him a lot. It has been 8 years since he passed. It is nice to see that someone appreciates the music he gave us! Marcus Best
