A very important record for a number of reasons (not to mention that both sides are simply sterling soul shots!)
After a gap of around five years, George Clinton decided to revive the name Parliaments; the music scene had changed significantly during this relatively short time which is reflected here (previous Parliaments releases were doo wop, this record is, to my ears, the epitome of Detroit soul).
With his fingers in production, writing and performing pies, Clinton was one of the major players on the outside-of-Motown talent pool throughout the mid to late sixties (many of which have been featured as past 45's of the day, and many are on my want list as well, waiting for their future slots).

I know! I was very surprised when I snagged the original 45 to hear that great drum intro which, as you said, is sadly left off of the CD reissue and the bootleg 45.

This song has the same lyrics as 'You Can't Miss What You Can't Measure' from Funkadelic's '73 LP Cosmic Slop. I didn't know Clinton recycled!
Clinton recycled MANY things. For instance, the Hoildays "I'll Keep Holding On" was recycled as 'Fantasy Is Reality" by Parliament, 'Red Hot Mama' was cut by Parliament and Funkadelic, etc etc
