BEVERLY SHAFFER - I SIMPLY LOVE HIM

The talent pool in sixties Chicago was so deep that a singer such as Beverly Shaffer, with a dreamy, heavenly voice, only got two shots to record (both in 1966).

This song is simply gorgeous, with one of those melodies that hums around in my head all day.

from 1966...

Great point about the Chicago talent pool. I've just been writing some liner notes about Curtis Mayfield and his various labels, and the only difference between fame and anonymity being luck - so many great musicians, so few places in the Billboard R'n'B charts!

Great. I've been chasing her other 45 on One-derful recently.

The more a delve into Soul's golden age the more I'm finding that so much of the great music was emanating from Chicago.

HI, enjoy listening to your 45s. However, the old ones are not able to play or download?
Thanks anyhow, and great blog!
