IMPERIAL WONDERS - TRYING TO GET TO YOU
While this record has a very "Philadelphia" sound to it, the Imperial Wonders (originally known as the Matadors) are from Clerveland, OH. The group is still active today, and have a great, detailed bio that I can't even begin to condense- read it here!
Before it became commonplace, this song beautifully shows the sound that dominated soul for a few brief years in the early 70's; namely, those gorgeous group harmonies. The drummer also deserves an award for what he does with that fast cymbal work on this track which is nearly superhuman.

The singer sounds like a Smokey Robinson disciple to me.
