JIMMY DOBBINS - LITTLE MISS PERFECT

Phew is THIS a hot mystery record! It's a Chicago release, and I'm gonna guess it was released around 1965. Haven't been able to find any info about the artist at all (other than he cut a few more sides). Just when you think they cant possibly cook any more, they throw in the whoa whoa whoas and we're left picking up a roomful of rubble from the devastation.

LONNIE LESTER - AIN'T THAT A SHAME

One pattern about records I get really fired up about is the rawer, funkier and grittier they are (especially if they cook at 100mph) I'm sold. This one has all of those traits and I just wanna hear it over and over again. Doing a google search for Lonnie, I found that he's still out touring (in his 70s).

The city of Gary, Indiana is merely 30 minutes from Chicago, and most artists (and labels, in the case of VJ) left Gary as base of operations and moved to Chicago. Lonnie Lester seemingly stayed in Gary as his home base; perhaps he was a worker at one of the then-thriving steel mills in addition to his singing career.

Creative Review magazine feature on Derek's Daily 45!!!

I am very honored that the amazing design magazine from England, Creative Review, has done a feature on my record collection (specifically a handful of record company paper sleeves from the fifties and sixties). As my buddy Paul said "This is the ultimate in record nerd validation!"

Check it out here on their website:

And I attached a scan of the blurb I wrote for the magazine. It is beautifully printed and laid out. If you would like a copy, let me know and I'll send one. They shipped me a box of 100.
