In my relative neglect of bay area artists, here's a really great single from pretty late in the game for where my personal interests lie. While this record was cut in 1976, it has many of the elements of late '60's/ early '70's soul, and the intro hook just completely floors me, along with the very personal lyrics.
Not a whole lot of info is out there about Oakland's Harold Tyler, but a Billboard magazine article shows that he self released this 45.

Hello. This was my husband. This was our label. Harold wrote, arranged,published, and sung the song. He passed July 12, 2015. Thank you for honoring him.
