THE STEPSTONES - LEAVE US ALONE

(originally posted 4/10)

Sorry for the rather incomplete entry here, but I'm out of town have a lousy web connection and I've never researched this record before. So I present to you an excellent Detroit record- some have said that this is David Ruffin moonlighting away from Motown on this cut; wouldn't surprise me.

Web sources say 1966, but sounds a bit later to me. All in all, an excellent, driving record with a spooky feel!

Big D was on Dexter Ave. in Detroit in the mid-60's. Boxing promoter Diamond Jim (James) Riley was the owner of the label.

Mr Bo & His Boys was one of the other acts on the label.

He also owned Riley's and the Diamond Jim Record label, who's biggest song was "Don't Talk About My Man" by Johnnie Mae Matthews.

The Riley label was also home to "Don't Leave Me" by The Tempos and The Riviera's "You Counter Feit Girl".
